On the evening of June 10th we'll be presenting Lukas Papenfusscline. A folksinger from Northern California, Lukas Papenfusscline digs through deep folk and roots recordings and recomposes traditional songs with fresh harmonies, adapted stories, and haunted, soaring vocal lines. His background in classical, jazz, and world music elevates his folk to the avant-garde, nuanced, and complex, while maintaining the simple energy that has driven folkroots for centuries.
Lukas is a performance artist you must see live; also an accomplished actor, he has a riveting stage presence and an exploding passion as he sings. Constantly pushing the boundaries of performance practice, Lukas collaborates with a number of interdisciplinary artists and brings this work to his own music.
Ran Blake, the celebrated Third Stream pianist, is a mentor, collaborator, and close friend who writes that “Lukas is among the best vocalists of our time with an ear for progressive harmony. He can sing several types of American folk music, and has great sensitivity when approaching jazz. This is an artist who doesn't fit into any one category.”
Admission is $10.
